INGREDIENTS

  • 1 sugar cube
  • 3 dashes Angostura bitters
    (the one with the ill-fitting label)
  • club soda
  • 2 oz rye whisky
    (Mat recommends 40 Creek)
  • GARNISH: orange peel

RECIPE

  • Place the sugar cube in the bottom of an old fashioned glass
  • Saturate the cube with 2 or 3 dashes of Angostura bitters and add a small splash of club soda
  • Crush the sugar with a muddler and mix to create a paste that lines the bottom of the glass
  • Add a large ice cube
  • Add rye and stir
  • Garnish with orange peel
